City receives state funding for two road projects for walkers and cyclists

The City of Spokane Valley has been named as a recipient of two funding awards from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) using additional funding from

the Legislature. Last month, WSDOT awarded grants for 15 additional Safe Routes to School (SRTS) and Pedestrian/Bicyclist Program (PBP) projects amounting to more than $20

million towards improving pedestrian and bicyclist safety and mobility across Washington.

Of these new projects receiving funding statewide, Spokane Valley's two projects include:

$1.7 million to pay for sidewalk and bicycle lane improvements on Bowdish Road from 12th to 22nd Avenue. This SRTS project is estimated to be constructed in Spring/Summer

2024.

$556,400 to install a new pedestrian beacon crossing connecting City Hall to the south with Balfour Park, a new Spokane County Library, and an existing transit stop to the north. This

PBP project is planned to be constructed in Spring 2024.
