The Economic Policy Institute's Family Budget Calculator determined the cost of living and looked at health care, food, housing, transportation and other necessities to come to the conclusion. The monthly hosing cost in the county was $539 and the median household income is just over $50,000, the news media reported.
The analysis was completed by 24/7 Wall St. and it ranked counties nationwide.
The news media reported that the jobless rate in Spokane County was 15.1% in May and the unemployment rate was more than 13% in half of the most affordable counties in the nation. It noted that at that time local population growth was less than the U.S. average and has been for several years.
