SPOKANE COUNTY: Spokane County Office of Law and Justice Publishes New Criminal Justice Dashboard

Lawyer

Spokane County issued the following announcement on Aug. 27.

The Spokane County Office of Law and Justice announced that the long awaited regional criminal justice data dashboard has been published and is ready to view by the community.

The dashboard interactively displays data regarding the jail population, jail admissions, and jail releases. The data in this program can be filtered by date and a variety of demographic information. While the information included in the dashboard is substantial, the Office of Law & Justice plans to continue working to expand data reporting and dashboard capacity in the future.

The tool is intended to enhance transparency, assist in tracking progress with relevant reforms, and identify where disparities emerge, including but not limited to racial disparities, and accrue to better focus efforts to tackle relevant disproportionalities.

This new tool was made possible through the work of Spokane County employees who analyzed and assembled data along with the help of Spokane County Detention Services. Financial support for this project was made possible by the significant contribution from the MacArthur Foundation’s Safety & Justice Challenge.

Maggie Yates, Spokane Regional Law & Justice Administrator, stated, “This dashboard is the product of years’ worth of work and collaboration between our office, Detention Services, criminal justice stakeholders, and community partners. We know that data plays a critical role in understanding and addressing the challenges we face across the criminal system and we’re grateful for the input and support that made this project possible. There is more work to be done to ensure that our data provides a clear and comprehensive picture of our local criminal justice system, so that we can implement policies and programs that will ensure fair, equitable, and efficient outcomes.”
