The city of Liberty Lake is on its way to serving the community with a new library. During a special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 9, the City Council approved to proceed with the
purchase of the building at 23129 E. Mission Ave., which is located directly to the east of the facility that currently houses both the current library and police operations for Liberty
Lake. The city is expected to purchase its new building for $2.175 million, a figure that council members and others during the meeting noted is substantially less than the cost of
erecting a completely new facility to house the library. As part of the council's 5-2 vote approving the purchase of the building, $1.5 million will come from the federal allocations the
city received from the American Rescue Plan Act, with the remainder coming from a combination of the city's general fund and real estate excise tax money. Library operations are
expected to relocate to the new 14,400 square-foot site in about a year and a half, expanding from the library's current floor space of just under 9,000 square feet.
