An appropriate notice to share on the first day of spring:  For the 18th time, Liberty Lake has received a Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters.

Tree City USA recognition is presented to cities that meet the four standards of having a tree board or department, having a public tree care ordinance, having a community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, and having an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.  The Tree City USA designation for 2022 marks the return of that status for Liberty Lake, following a reduction in the city's tree-related services that occurred during two years of coronavirus restrictions.  Liberty Lake first received Tree City USA recognition for reaching all the standards in 2003.
