(Airway Heights, WA) --- The city of Airway Heights invites the community to learn more about the Transportation Benefit District (TBD) renewal that will be on the November 8, 2022,
General Election ballot.
City officials will host two opportunities for community members to ask questions about the ballot measure to reduce traffic congestion and improve pedestrian safety:
Monday, Oct. 24 and Monday, Nov 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Court/Council Chambers Building, 13120 W. 13th Ave. You can attend in-person or virtually (find the link to the meeting on
the city’s website).
“Community support is important to continue funding these critical transportation projects, and I encourage people to attend and learn why the TBD renewal is on the ballot,” City
Manager Albert Tripp said.
The city is asking votes to renew its TBD to continue funding streets, sidewalks, pedestrian safety, and projects designed to relieve traffic congestion. The TBD renewal raises money
for these projects with a 0.3 percent sales tax or three cents on a $10 purchase. More than 70 percent of vehicles traveling along U.S. 2 stop in Airway Heights for food, fuel, and to
shop or attend events and conferences. As a result, most of the TBD funding comes from visitors to the city.
In 2013 voters approved a TBD which has raised approximately $3.9 million in revenue and leveraged an additional $10 million in grants.
If voters approve the TBD renewal, the city will raise approximately $935,000 a year. The city can leverage that amount to obtain grants and turn the initial investment into another $21
million for a total of $30.5 million over the TBD’s 10-year period.
“Good transportation infrastructure is vital to a growing city like ours,” Tripp said. “The projects funded by the TBD have helped to relieve traffic congestion and improve pedestrian
safety, all of which improves quality of life for residents in addition to attracting businesses and visitors to our city.”
