N. Howard Street Shooting Suspect Arrested

Spokane2

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives, working with the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force, identified an apartment where they believed the shooting suspect, Steven M. Perry, was located.  Perry, a convicted felon with a history of being armed/violent, had an active felony warrant (DOC-original charge Robbery) in addition to felony charges associated with this shooting investigation.  After a brief standoff with Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team members, Perry was taken into custody, and the scene was turned over to Investigators.  Perry was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Assault 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, and his Washington DOC warrant.

Continuing the investigation into the shooting that occurred on May 20, 2022, in the 6300 block of N. Howard Street, Major Crimes Detective Mike Drapeau identified the suspect as 36-year-old Steven M. Perry.  He developed probable cause to charge Perry with Assault 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree, and Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Meth/Cocaine/LSD).  In addition, Perry also had an active felony Washington State Department of Correction Escape Community Custody warrant (original charge Robbery) for his arrest.

The U.S. Marshals Service Task Force joined the relentless search for Perry.

On June 1, 2022, the search led to an apartment in the 2600 block of N. Market.  With Detectives and U.S. Marshals Service Task Force members surveilling the location, a search warrant for the address was obtained at approximately 5:00 pm.  Due to Perry’s violent current charges and history, the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, Negotiators, EDU, Air Support Unit, and Rescue Task Force members were requested to assist.

Initially, Perry did not cooperate and would not surrender.  At approximately 7:10 pm., he eventually exited the apartment and was taken into custody.   He was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Assault 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, and the Washington State DOC felony warrant.

Major Crimes Detectives executed the search warrant on the residence as part of the continuing investigation into the incident.  This remains an active investigation, and no further information is available.

Major Crimes Detectives Investigate Shooting in N. Spokane

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives continue their investigation of a shooting that occurred at an apartment complex in North Spokane.  A male was shot during the incident and transported to the hospital in a private vehicle before Deputies arrived.  His injuries were reported as potentially life-threatening but appeared to have been stabilized.  The other male, reportedly involved, had been staying at one of the apartments and fled the scene in a vehicle.  Initial information indicates this shooting occurred due to a dispute over property/cash and was not a random incident.

On May 20, 2022, at approximately 1:15 am., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of the 6300 block of N. Howard Street in North Spokane.  The information from callers stated multiple shots were heard, and a male believed to be the suspect was seen, armed with a firearm, walking to, and leaving in, a vehicle.

Arriving Deputies contacted people at the location, none of which were involved in the incident.  They also located a handgun, blood, and additional items of evidence on the south side of the apartment building.

The crime scene was immediately secured for further investigation.

A few minutes later, Holy Family Hospital staff advised that a male was brought in suffering from gunshot wounds.  His injuries were reported as potentially life-threatening but appeared to have been stabilized.  Deputies and Spokane Police Officers responded to the location.

Major Crimes Detectives were called to continue the investigation.

Preliminary information indicates the shooting was potentially a result of a disagreement over property/money.  Investigators believe they have the people involved identified but have not located the male suspect.

Anyone with information regarding this shooting who Deputies/Detectives have not contacted is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233, reference #10061793.
