Spokane Valley Police Department recently issued the following announcement on Feb 23.
Spokane Valley Deputies, with the victim's assistance, arrested a vehicle prowler after he broke the window of a vehicle and stole several items, including credit cards. The suspect used or attempted to use a credit card at different locations in Spokane Valley. The suspect was located near Broadway and Sullivan and taken into custody without incident.
On February 20, 2022, at approximately 5:00 pm., Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a reported vehicle prowling in the 15900 block of E. 4th Avenue.
The victim reported her vehicle was broken into, and there was blood leading her to believe the suspect was possibly injured during the theft.
As Deputy West responded to the area, he was informed someone attempted to use the victim’s stolen credit card at a gas station on Sullivan.
Deputies began checking businesses in the area for a blue Dodge Ram that the suspect was believed to be driving. The victim asked the store clerk to review video surveillance from the gas station and learned the license plate of the Dodge.
Around the same time, Deputies also received information from the victim that her friend may have located the Dodge in the parking lot of Michael’s, 15521 E. Broadway.
Deputy West checked the license plate and learned the vehicle had recently been associated with 41-year-old Jerry L. Boully and that Boully had a confirmed misdemeanor theft warrant for his arrest. With Boully being wanted and matching the general description of the possible suspect, Deputy West viewed Boully’s booking photo.
Sergeant Pratt responded to Michael’s and began surveilling the Dodge, which was unoccupied. Deputy West arrived in the area and spoke with the victim.
Later, a male was observed entering the truck, and he began to drive toward Broadway. In his fully marked patrol car with emergency lights activated, Deputy West cut off Boully’s escape route to the front. He observed a male driving that he identified as Boully from his booking photo. Boully put the truck into reverse in a possible attempt to flee due to the restrictive pursuit laws in Washington State that would have prohibited his arrest if he fled, just as Sergeant Pratt pulled in behind Boully. Boully put the vehicle into park and surrendered with his truck boxed in.
Boully was advised he was under arrest for his warrant and informed of his rights. Boully had fresh cuts on his hand and a bloodstain on the left thigh area of his pants. Boully explained he cut his hand jumping a fence but could not describe where. He denied being at the location where the vehicle prowling occurred and stated he went to the gas station to purchase food with cash before refusing to answer questions about the stolen credit card.
Boully was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for his misdemeanor warrant and new charges of Theft 2nd Degree-felony, Vehicle Prowling 2nd Degree-misdemeanor and Malicious Mischief-3rd Degree-misdemeanor. Boully remains in custody with his bond set at $10,750 by the courts.
A purse matching the description of the purse stolen during the vehicle prowling was observed on the passenger side floor of the Dodge. The Dodge was seized for evidence pending a search warrant and follow-up by Spokane Valley Investigative Unit Detectives.
Additional charges are possible as this investigation continues.
