The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is on board with a new workgroup to evaluate purchasing new body cameras and install a data management system to catalog videos and other evidence.
"We've been wanting to go this direction since 2007, and I really think this is the perfect opportunity to solve two problems," Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said, governing.com reported.
The move comes after county commissioners approved the workgroup to review additional tools and potential costs.
Todd Mielke, Spokane County Sheriff Office chief administrative officer, told commissioners in a meeting that the county needs a new digital evidence management system, governing.com reported. He emphasized that the system should be installed as soon as possible.
"I think it's twofold," County Commissioner Mary Kuney said, governing.com reported. "We've got to look at the cost, but we've also got to look at the transparency to the public and internal controls for the deputies."
