As local businesses continue to struggle under the economic crisis created by COVID-19 restrictions, Spokane County has announced a plan to distribute $10.8 million in relief to the hospitality industry.
The Spokane Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously in favor of allocating the federal CARES Act fund – all of which have to be spent or forfeited by Dec. 31 – to create the Spokane County Hospitality Relief Grant program, according to coverage by Patch. Greater Spokane Inc. will administer the program.
The county intends to begin handing out the grants of up to $20,000 by Friday, Dec. 4, according to Patch.
"Our restaurateurs deeply appreciate this relief funding which helps them with the increased costs they pay as a result of the pandemic, and the loss of business and dining capacity," Derek Baziotis, president of the Spokane chapter of the Washington Hospitality Association, was quoted as saying by Patch. "This funding gives our local business owners the direct support they desperately need to help their businesses survive."
