Spokane County judges affirmed to do three things better when it comes to racial equality: listen better, do better and be better, KXLY reported.
The judges on the Spokane County Superior Court made the vow in a statement titled “Personal and Professional Commitment to Equality.”
The judges said they could not remain silent when there are blatant reminders every day of how Black lives in America are treated with persistent devaluation and degradation.
“It is with painful awareness that we acknowledge shortcomings that have resulted in systematic injustice against Black Americans and Black citizens of our state and county,” the judges told KXLY. “It is with candid honesty that we recognize the role that the courts have played in these injustices.”
Saying they will each roll up their sleeves to work towards instituting and institutionalizing real change, the judges acknowledged that they do not have immediate answers to longstanding questions.
