CPD is launching the “Get to know your Local Law Enforcement” program.
This will be a monthly program that will highlight one CPD Officer to the community. The goal of this program is to foster positive relationships and ensure community members get to know those who serve them. Within these releases you will find the officers history within law enforcement, their personal and career goals, specialties, and the reasons why they choose to serve the community of Cheney day in and day out.

This month Officer Maria Fell will be highlighted.

Officer Fell began her law enforcement career with the EWU Police Department from 2016-2018.  Officer Fell then was employed at the Cheney Municipal Court where she served as a probation officer. She was hired by CPD in July 2022.

When Officer Fell was asked what her goals are during her career at CPD, Officer Fell replied “I appreciate the many different pathways law enforcement can take. Personally, I am interested in advancing my training for DUI’s, which are one of our most lengthy and complex calls for service. I would also love to bring a K9 back to the department someday! Specifically, I think an ESD K9 – short for “Electronic Storage Detection” – would be an asset to our region, as they can search out any device containing a memory chip. But that could be a few years down the road.”

Since her first day of employment with CPD it was recognized by her colleagues that Officer Fell is extremely passionate about serving and being involved with our community in and out of uniform. Officer Fell is often described by her peers as determined, compassionate, and a “go-getter”.

When asked why she chose to work at the Cheney Police Department, she stated “I am passionate about this community. Cheney PD offers the unique ability for an officer to engage in hands-on community policing more-so than larger departments. The Department supports continued training and expands on each officer’s strengths.”.

When Officer Fell is not on duty, she is out enjoying community activities, horseback riding and training her two dogs!

Since being hired at CPD, Officer Fell has become an invaluable asset to our team. We are extremely thankful to have her and are excited to see her achieve her goals during her career with our agency.
